I've been watching Youtube breakdowns of the differences between the 2018 and 2024 editions of the Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game and one thing has stood out to me - how in the 2024 version the player who wins Priority gets to choose whether or not they will go first.
This surprises me as the MESBG has been around in one form or another since 2001; but you're telling me in all that time Games Workshop didn't get enough feedback that choosing whether to go first or not was better than just getting to go first?
It struck me as odd, as it seems something they would have at least tried in the last 23 years, right?
Anyhoo, here's a reference of a version of the player with Initiative choosing to go first or second from 1997's Chronopia (albeit a version where you nominate a specific enemy unit, forcing them to activate).
Chronopia (1997), p.103 |
Chronopia was fully alternating activation as well, no phases (or alternating phases). There's some real gold in this old (somewhat forgotten) game.
